Toyota Innova Gas vs Diesel Debate: Lower Maintenance and Total Cost of Ownership?

Just to add a semblance of order to a never ending debate to get a Toyota Innova Diesel vs Gas (can be Mitsubishi Montero gas vs diesel thread or Nissan, Hyundai, Kia or other car brands) Toyota Innova 2.8 E Diesel AT Diesel ₱1,320,000 Toyota Innova 2.0 E Gas AT Gasoline ₱1,248,000 there is a PhP72,000.00 difference between the gas and diesel versions of Toyota Innova with automatic transmission Acquisition cost: P72,000.00 Diesel Comprehensive insurance: a difference of less than P1000/year Gas Fuel consumption at 1000 km/month: P40,000/year, PhP200,000 in 5 years Diesel Gas Lower acquisition cost Lower insurance Diesel: lower fuel cost (about PhP10/L difference here in the Philippines better fuel consumption more powerful/torque miscellaneous: just about even Tires brake pads brake shoes shock absorber (common issue, usually replaced during warranty period) change oil: 6.5L engine oil for old generation innova diesel, 7.5 liters for new innova diesel for PMS (periodic maintenance schedule) Gas/Petrol variant only: spark plugs: needs to be replaced every 10,000 kilometers Diesel variant only: Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) needs to be cleaned about every 80,000 kilometers turbo common issues: shock absorbers alternator pulley (for the all new innova/kijang) Sample computation of fuel costs over 5 years (total cost of ownership (TCO)): average fuel consumption, city driving: diesel: 8km/L at PhP40/L gas: 6km/L at PhP50/L diesel cost per month: 1000 km / 8km/L x P40/L = P5000/month gas cost per month: 1000 km / 6km/L x P50/L = P8333/month PhP3333/month, PhP40000/year P40,000/year fuel savings of diesel over gas TCO of 5 years P200,000 at 1000km/month P400,000 in 5 years kung 20,000km/month at my current usage of 1000 kms/month, it would've saved me PhP300,000+ in a span of 5 years in my diesel compared to the gas variant. I wouldn't worry about busted turbo as it's not a common issue. I'd rather take the savings and invest it somewhere rather than buy a gas variant because it has no turbo
