Cherry Mobile Flare/Titan: Where to Buy Cheap Android Phone

I just became an official android user with a purchase of sought after Cherry Mobile Flare at Walter Mart North EDSA at the retail price of P3,999.00 initial impressions of Cherry Mobile Flare Review:
Cherry Mobile Flare in my hand (photo taken by my iPhone 4S

Capacitive screen is responsive, though i'm used to my iPhone 4S, no comparison picture quality is good but not great, camera hunts in low light and not that sharp (of course I don't expect much from a cheap camera) but it's already good for the price (the only negative comment/feedback here from a guy who loves cameras. (phone Camera picture samples later)

autofocus camera is 5 megapixels (again, high megapixel count doesn't make a camera good)

build quality is good, plastic is not the el cheapo type. it doesn't really look cheap at all, there's only a small cherry mobile logo at the back, no logo in front. No "drop test" here but it looks rigid enough to withstand a bad fall though I don't recommend it (madali masira? doubt it)

dual core, 1.2 GHz processor is fast, about as fast as my iPhone display resolution is good at the price, don't know if this is native to Android but the Gmail app is rendering email messages that do not fit on the screen, i have to scroll left/right down/up unlike my iPhone where the message fits the screen (is due to high screen resolution of iPhone retina?)

wi-fi is fast so far, not yet used it for 3G Internet access yet, streaming video nor music. memory of 4 BG but expandable to 32GB, i only have to buy one at CDR King for a microSD memory card

Where to buy Cherry Mobile Flare Online: lazada.com.ph price is P4,999.00 yeah it's a bit expensive Cherry Mobile stores scattered in malls

Cherry mbile flare review cherry mobile titan review warning: this popular phone is always out of stock I will write a full review with sample pictures, GPS sensitivity, battery life, capacitive touch screen et al one of these days

Samsung Corby GT-S3653 Bluetooth Problem on Windows Vista

I tried to download my pictures taken by my Samsung Corby to my Windows Vista laptop and I can't connect, getting errors. I can browse and get files from my PC (files on the Bluetooth share folder) but not the other way around.

Note that I can do this on my Nokia E63 aand other Nokia phones but not here on Samsung Corby. Tried uploading it from my phone but it also doesn't work. Tried various settings to no avail.

Tried to find solutions online but can't find one that really solved my problem. Once I tried to buy a USB cable for Samsung Corby on Raon, Quiapo, Manila and even CDR King but didn't find one. I'm currently installing Samsung New PC Studio, something like Nokia PC Suite to test bluetooth functionality. I wonder if I' encounter the same problems for Cherry Mobile, Torque or myPhone cellphones with scant information, hard-to-find service service centers and local support forums.

UPDATE: Problem solved by using Samsung New PC Studio. It can also pose problems for Windows XP and Windows 7as well as other Samsung phones.

Globe Super One Prepaid Promo Registration?

I recently received an SMS in my postpaid Globe phone about the latest offering of SuperOne that can allow me an unlimited call and text one number for just P150/month (Php175 for My Super Plan subs).

how to register for Globe SuperOne:

"To register, text SUPER ONE < 11-digit # > ON to 8888 (postpaid). For My Super Plan subscribers, text SUPER ONE < 11-digit # > to 8888. Promo is until 9/15/10
"

I really don't need to subscribe to SuperOne since wifey's enrolled in Super Duo, ijust text her to call me :P

note that Globe Super One's only for postpaid plan holders for now and may be offered to prepaid subscribers like me...i dropped my postpaid line, again, due to wifey's Super Duo :P

Why Don't I Receive Text Messages to My Sun Cellular?

I was informed of this lately when I sent SMS to several friends but no replies arrived. Then another day when I was aked why I didn't reply to her text message?

Digitel's Sun Cellular has lots of explaining to do. The problem of this unreceived text messages is annoying for I always vouch for their being maintained so well by telcos being their cashcow but a problem persisting for several days is unforgiveable

Cellphone Jammers to Cheat Elections 2010?

A recent reports by the Commision on Elections (COMELEC) on the threat of the reported entry of 5000 mobile phone signal jamming equipment in the country hoged the news recently.

Cellphone jammers operate like "wild mobile phone" transmitters to block legitimate cellphone signals thereby disbaling them. This is so because the equipment for the May 2010 elections will be using cellular phone lines to transmit precinct count to the tallying center computers.

WOuld the cellphone jammers be able to cheat? I don't think so. They will merely delay the tallying but not the count since the real election count is stored in the individual units at each precinct. Cellphone jamming will only delay but traditional dagdag-bawas cheating tactics won't succeed.

I will look for equipment to trace/track/detect cellphone jammers and procedures how to mitigate the threat.

Sun Cellular Broadband 3G Internet Settings with Mobile Phone as USB Modem

I had just bought a new LG KF311 3g-capable mobile phone from LG outlet in SM City North EDSA simply because I wanted to have a backup to my crappy Bayan DSL Internet connection

After testing the basic functions of my phone, I went to the Sun Cellular business center at the 4th floor of SM The Annex but I left after observing how slow their customer service counters were moving, much slower than Cory Aquino's cortege going to Manila Memorial Park (imagine i'm #37 and they're still serving #125 with more than 15 minutes per number...i didn't waste my time just to inquire how to setup my internet using mobile phone)

How to setup Sun Cellular Internet using Mobile Phone as Modem:

1. Connect your mobile phone to PC using USB cable supplied
2. Use the CD installed with the mobile phone to install the PC Suite and USB driver software.
3. to setup your Internet connection, use "minternet" as APN setting and *99# for Call number (this i copied from Smart's number since I can't find the info on the Internet and I can't get through to Sun Cellular Hotline 200)
4. I was able to finally connect and use my new Internet connection.

Initial Sun Broadband Internet Review is that it's fairly decent but lacking my speed expectations but I'm sure, in my area, it's faster than Globe Tatoo due to absence of 3G signal at home.

Free Blackberry Storm from Globe Promo?

My officemates asking me for confirmation about a flyer of Globe's latest promo offering "free" blackberry Storm for all their existing plan holders for just P700/month

It turned out the plan was just access to Internet using Blackberry Storm and not the phone itself.

Sounds too good to be true...no fine print on the brochure.

Don't bother calling Globe hotline about it, you won't get the new phone for P700/month on top of your postpaid bill.

DIY iPhone 3G Jailbreak Greenhills (QuickPWN Windows Vista Problem)

With lots of time in my hands recently, I was finally able to have my iPhone 3G jailbroken, not in Greenhills, SM or any where in Manila but in the comfort of my own home

DIY jailbreaking How-to, you need these:

iPhone 3G
iTunes 8
QuickPWN 2.2.5
iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore (Apple Device Software Update File)
USB cable connected to the PC

Jailbreak procedure:
just extract the QuickPWN app, run QuickPWN then follow the instructions and you'll be set in about 15 minutes...

It's so easy. you don't have to pay P500 price for jailbreaking service cost in Greenhills as recommended by my friends!

My iPhone now has Cycorder video recording feature and SMS/text forwarding and a whole lot more.

Note: Tried to jailbreak on Windows Vista but QuickPWN just keeps on shutting down or stopping in the middle of the process. I tried using my old Windows XP and it's a one click success. A jailbroken iPhone can lose Globe warranty but restoring the original iPhone firmware is so easy using iTunes.

Free Load from Globe AutoLoad Max

It's weird but I'm not complaining...I have a prepaid SIM card that came from an iPhone 3G from Globe that I only loaded P100 when I was in Ormoc last month.

As I was about to give it away since I got a new postpaid line, I checked the load balance and found out I still have P477.00 load and 60 free text messages.
As the SIM card is new, I sent some load credits via Globe's Share a Load to my father in Paete, Laguna and also to my sister for I don't know what to do with the extra load after talking to them for about 30 minutes.

Yesterday, I again received a text message from Globe Autoload Max that I got P200 woth of load with no information where it came from. Normal load transfer give the mobile phone number of the retailer SIM or that of the number tho used a Share-a-Load facility. It's looks like a system generated message from Globe.

Did I just got lucky? At least I shared my gift with those around me. I expect more loads to come my way unless Globe discovers a "system error" on their part.

perhaps it's an early gift from Globe "kasi tight kami."

Google Phone Runs on Android Mobile OS

The Big G is at it again.

From the recent launch of Google Chrome to compete directly with Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, now comes the so called Google Phone running on Android.

Android Mobile OS is also set to compete with Symbian and Microsoft Windows Mobile for cellphones, mobile devices and PDAs.

US telecom carrier T-Mobile will on September 23 a "Google phone" by Taiwanese firm HTC to hit stores in October.

Google hopes to make Android, an open source software, the dominant operating system for mobile phones and said to be designed with improved speed and quality of Internet experience on handsets.

Google also announced the "Open Handset Alliance" last year to develop Android, a team that includes China Mobile, HTC, Intel, Motorola, Qualcomm, T-Mobile, Telefonica, LG and eBay.

Android phone prototypes were demonstrated by ARM, Marvell, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, NEC, ST Microelectronics recetnly at the Mobile World Congress.

Note: I would love to get hold of the Google Android phone in Philippines should I get the chance. Pictures and review to follow.

iPhone 3G Impressions and Camera Sample Pictures

I now have a fresh out of the box iPhone 3G from Apple, the envy of my officemates due to the slick new interface but i noticed immediately several negatives on the iconic mobile device.

1. you can't foward text messages/SMS to others...quite a standard with other phones. will have to check for workarounds.
2. GPS functionality doesn't work as advertised. I will have to buy a separate GPS device, probably Garmin, for this to be installed on my car's dashboard.
3. Camera, as I expected, performs below my expectations. I'm partial to the image quality of Sony-Ericsson phones. See sample pictures taken at Tiendesitas in Pasig.

Will update this post for more observations and the dark side of the iPhone 3G.

Cheap CECT CellPhones with TV looks like Nokia N99i

About ten of my officemates bought a certain brand of mobile phones without any markings, most with Nokia N99i stickers, tht comes with a PDA and TV tuner. They bout the unit in Greenhills costing P5.7k each. Quite cheap for a mobile phone that look so much like Nokia.

I was also offered to buy one in order for them to get a larger discount due to volume purchase but I begged off since I don't need a new phone, I'm happy with my simple phone that i merely use to call and text. I don't even have a new ringtone. I simply told them I'll buy one after about a month after I got their feedback and reviews.

After a month, all of the phones are still working but all of them are complaining about the non-display of caller's name or texter when being called even if the name is stored in the phone's address book. Tried to find out if there're duplicate entries, a fix you find in Nokia phones, but even if you've already deleted all names in the address book, the calling number is not displayed making it hard to know who's calling.

Aside from that defect, I also reminded them that I can't use it while driving since it requires the use of stylus for the PDA to compose SMS.

At the recent Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone will be available worldwide starting July 11. It's reportedly faster than Nokia's N95 smartphone. * six hours of Web browsing and five hours of talk time
* also comes with global positioning system (GPS) mapping capabilities.
* support applications like Microsoft Exchange and the new
* support for EDGE network (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution)
* access to App Store, Apple's virtual store for all free and commercial iPhone applications
* wireless system that automatically forwards e-mail to other devices,
* a friend-finding service called Loopt

As mentioned above, the new iPhone 3G now works with Microsoft's Exchange office server systems, competing directly with Research in Motion's (RIMM) Blackberry for professional business users

Also, Jobs announced that the new version of the Mac operating system OS X is called "Snow Leopard."

I was hoping to get the iPhone in the Philippines through Globe, I might again subscribe to them for a postpaid line for subsidized cost :P

I just read on the newspaper an ad announcing the new Slyder phone featuring a sleek look at various colors.
