Car Warranty Void When Flooded/Water Submerged

Just for your information, all car warranties are voided in the event the car/vehicle got flooded even if you have it restored/repaired at the dealer/casa this rule applies to Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Hyundai, Ford, Mazda, Suzuki, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz et al so is a universal rule i think it's only the car's electrical system but also includes the sensors. best to confirm with manufacturer best to have your car insured with acts of god/acts of nature (AOG/AON) waiver

Rough Idle Toyota Vios: Vacuum Leak, ISCV, Throttle Body Cleaning, Oxygen Sensor or Brake Booster?

My dear toyota vios 1.5g, codename Sakura, is acting up lately wherever I apply the brakes until I shift to neutral

This only began last month when RPM on my tachometer drops to around 500 from the usual 700 RPM, engine shivers and the hood vibrates to the point of stalling but the RPM immediately recovers to 700.

I thought it's a leaking brake booster at first due to a Google search of symptoms and solutions but ruled it out since it's an intermittent problem not related to the brakes, even the air-conditioning unit is suspect.

First, I'll try a DIY throttle body cleaning using carburator cleaner (i'll have to buy one) then observe then also clean the ISCV (idle speed control valve, or IACV idle air control valve in some systems, servo for others), then have all hoses, valves and gaskets checked for leaks.

It's quite scary at times since I dread the day i stall in the middle of EDSA to be towed by MMDA and get a PhP1500 fine besides the scary "wrecker" experience.

Symptoms and solutions to follow once I solve it. :P

JDM Japan Surplus Car Parts (Jay N Jer Ortigas)

If any of you is looking for genuine JDM car parts from Japan, there's a car parts shop specializing in this area. They import their products directly from Japan and now doing the same for Korea (Hyundai and Kia surplus) in addition to their usual Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi cars.

They import them in bulk with whole engines and shipped in containers, pass by customs (yes, they're legit and legal, unlike others whose products provenance come from carnapped vehicles. If it's ok for you to buy stolen stuff just to save money, may the fate of the carnap victims not befall on you too).

anyway, i used to have their contact numbers to call but lost them. will just visit them again on Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City right after going down Rosario Bridge (or is it Ortigas Bridge? from Robinsons Galleria)

Will update this post once I get the telephone number and some sample prices. I'm gonna get me a Toyota purge valve solenoid for my Toyota vios (part number 90910-12202) that's turned on my yellow check engine light on my dashboard.

I might also look for JDM mods (modifications) for my almost 100% stock Sakura auto :P

Toyota Charcoal Canister or EVAP Purge Valve Solenoid Problem with Error Code P0443?

While idling for quite some time on Trinoma access road, my yellow check engine light came on. Since I have my own OBD II diagnostic scanning tool, i immediately checked it out and came with P0443 error code that points to the evaporative purge solenoid circuit.

I'm already familiar with the evaporative component of modern carsas it's responsible for storing gas vapors from the gas tank in the charcoal canister then the purge solenoid supplies the gas vpsors to the throttle body to be used as fuel, therefore maximizing use of fuel and eliminating emissions.

toyota evap purge valve solenoidToyota Vios evap purge valve solenoid, also for Yaris and other car models running on 1NZ-FE engines. the valve is located on the air filter compartment with two hoses, one from the evap charcoal canister and the other goes to the throttle body

I reset the code and it disappers, only to re-appear after a few minutes of driving.

I thought of replacing the purge valve solenoid with a little help from a friend selling surplus car parts from Japan who I may be able to replace it just to try then return the part if it's not really at fault. My paranois is due to Internet reports of defective evap canisters of Toyota discussed in several Toyota forums with the charcoal canister as culprit acording to the car diagnostic scanner and yet the error code and CEL light returned even after the evap canister was replaced (toyota charcoal canister price is about PhP8000.00 according to a mechanic friend of mine)

Yesterday, after doing a DIY interior detailing jpb on my car, I opened up the hood, yanked the two hoses from the purge valve solenoid, sprayed generous amounts of WD40, let it dry then reinstalled it then restarted my Toyota Vios. Voltage tests and continuity checks of the solenoid coil turned ok.

I used my Toyota Vios but dreaded yellow CEL came back after three trips on my dashboard/instrument cluster did not return so far. (I've read Toyota ECU lights the engine CEL after three run cycles thus the 3 trips)

Just when I decided to bring the purge valve to Jay N Jer for replacement (with guarantee to return if it's not the real culprit since I know the owners), I noticed the one of the wire connectors to the valve is open, with the rubber insulation hiding it. I just cut the wire and made a direct connection to the valve connectors.

Been 4 days and yet the malfunction indication light didn't return, electrical open and not actual valve failure.

Hope it stays that way. Just another accomplishment of my DIY OBDII scanner and some minor car repair knowledge saving me money :P

DIY PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) Guide, Anyone?

Sakura, my Toyota Vios 2006 has a small dent, actually a ding or dimple on the left side front door caused probably by children playing near my car one time when I parked it on the street.

A few days ago, I noticed three new dings on my car hood that's very noticeable even wifey readily noticed it so I figured I can try my hand at DIY (do it yourself) paintless dent repair to remove the dents, dings and dimples on my car if it's easy.

I've already done research for PDR services cost about P300/dent depends on size of the dent but I'm challenged that I can do itmyself not just to save on costs but probably a future "racket" or business.

To those who've experienced paintless dent repairs (PDR) what did you noticed?

did the pop-a-dent or other PDR tools effeective?
is the heat gun blow dryer method required to heat the paint to avoid damaging it needed?
does using a spoon to massage a dent effective and not worsen the dent?
does the ice cube method of heating and freezing a dent work?

is there a tutorial for paintless dent repair? how to do paintless dent repair? methods, tips and tricks of the trade?

I probably hire a home service PDR guy to do it for me and observe first before doing it. It's such a small price to pay for a small dent but i'll learn from it. An officemates' honda civic got cheap PDR service recently for P400 at honda casa :P

How to Replace Brake Lights (Toyota Vios)

I recently noticed the third brake light of Sakura, my Toyota Vios' name, is not working since the red light reflects on the car's rear window

When I asked someone to verify while I apply the brakes, the left "stop light" also is intermittent. When I opened the hood and checked the wiring (Toyota vios wiring diagram is pretty straightforward) the light went on and I simply returned the wiring harness back.

The next day, I checked the third brake light by removing the light assembly by simply pulling towards me then lifting it up to reveal the busted light bulb.

I again checked the tail light assembly and this time I discovered the second brake light is also busted-- I was driving with just one brake light on, such a dangerous one but glad I'm just on slow moving traffic.

I simply bought the two busted brake lamps at the nearby auto supply shop near Munoz, Quezon City for just P35.00 and installed them.

Now I'm back to the safe side, three brake lights working. Park lights and head lights and fog lamps, hazard and turn lights all confirmed working.
