Does Blogbank Still Pay or had a "Bank Run"?

Traffic to my main blog just skyrocketed as it's summer nearing Holy Week coupled with the upgrade to PR5 by BFF Google.

As I checked out the earnings for my blog advertising besides Google Adsense (that I check daily) e.g. Infolinks, Nuffnang and Blogbank.com.ph, Blogbank has not been giving updates on their website and blog...

I have unpaid earnings running to P8k and probably higher but no sign, not even a word from the owners (JV Fernandez?) on the latest news and updates on Blogbank...

What gives? Do I have to get rid of the blogbank code on my main blog and write off my "lost income" like what I did with other scam ads site?

Blogbank is not a scam nor a hoax, I actually got paid years ago...or sometime early last year but late last year...no news on blogbank but i have to guess it's another blogbank run? :(

IE9 Bug or Error: Cannot Publish Blogger Post Using Internet Explorer 9

I recently updated my notebook's Internet explorer to version 9 and now using it with ease but when I was posting the blog entry prior to this, I can't seem to publish my post for unknown reasons on Blogger platform but the Save button is ok

I saved the draft post, closed my IE9 window then fired up Google Chrome, logged in and open up the draft post on the Edit tab of Blogger, it's not published.

Is this an IE9 bug or error onn Blogger.com? No problem using Google Chrome and Firefox as I'm using it to update my main blog (using different browsers just to simultaneously log in)

hope it's just an IE9 hiccup!

Statcounter Down, Unavailable, Unreachable or Bankrupt?

For a few days now I can't access Statcounter.com, my main website analytics script on my blogs. I simply can't access their website to get a snapshot of my daily visitors

What happened to Statcounter.com? there's no latest news and updates I can find there except in 2004 and also when thei datacenter went down due to a bomb explosion. What happened this time, I don't know. Chapter 11? bankrupt due to the economic crisis?

i may have to swtich to another web analytics to make up for the loss, Google Analytics won't cut it alone though I love theier integration with Adsense.

How to Block Blog Comment Spam Tips for Blogger/Wordpress

On December 30, 2008, while I was on blog holiday, a spammer went on a spamming frenzy on this blog to comment on a lost cause and probably to catch my attention on something "remarkable"

The spammer spent about 3 hours to post the same comment on almost a hundred posts of this blog...

Tips to avoid Blog Comment Spam:

1. Enable Word Verification, technically called Captcha, effective in weeding out spambots (automated spamming scripts) from humans.

2. Consider moderating comments. It's better than allowing all comments then delete later for greater control. Enabling comment moderation can make do without Word Verification but the latest spammer here indicated I could have slowed the spammer down with the captcha.

3. Look for anti-spam plugins (for wordpress and other blogging platform) but like other anti-spam tools, you need to review the spam filder for false-positives.

4. Disable comment box or disallowing comments. I did this for the most spammed post in this blog.

5. Try to block the IP address of the spammer if using a static IP address.

6. Try to contact the ISP of the spammer for abuse i violation of their Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

you want to know who's spamming me? they're guys/agents of Fern-C on a spamming frenzy!

about the spam deluge, the spammer's effort of 3 hours spamming comments, stole about three minutes of my time deleting them. I don't want to waste more time reading a "press release" as if it will change anything. I just want them to stop doing those deceptive sales presentation of theirs.

How to Export/Backup Blog to Hard Disk in Blogger in Draft

For quite some time now, I'm outsourcing making backups of my blog to Blogger since the feature is not available for Classic Blogger, it's only for New Blgger (previously called Bl0gger Beta).

When I explored again Blogger in Draft, I found a simple way to backup my Classic Blogger-based blog by these simple steps:

Login to Blogger in Draft: http:draft.blogger.com
Click Basic tab
Click Export Blog
Click Export Blog button
Select the place to for Blogger to store your blog in XML format

Just in case you need to revert to your old blog, you can restore it using your backup by just using the Import Blog link instead of the Export Blog feature.

Blogger Comment Form Embedded Below Post Error

My blogs acting weird lately for I noticed I haven't been getting comments here and in my main blog. When I tried to reply to the comments, the drop down menu of the user name on the comment form does not work

It's not isolated to Firefox for it's the same using Internet Explorer. What I did was to temporarily revert to the pop up window when users like to post a comment.

I'm using classic blogger and maybe that's where the problem is, I don't know if it's the same for New Blogger.

Will have to check again and revert to the old comment form when the problem's solved by Google or I find the cause and solution.

How to embed comment form below post?

login to Draft Blogger at http://draft.blogger.com
Click Settings Tab
Select Comments
on the Comment Placement Form, check the Embedded Below Post
Click Save Settings.

How to Sell Your Blog: Price, Copyright and Sentimental Value

I have a dilemma not so tyrpical of bloggers: I received an unsolicited offer from a Singapore-based travel agency to buy my main blog Backpacking Philippines

The company recruited me to their affiliate program but now offered to buy the whole site, domain name and content then intend to hire me as the content writer to continue blogging. that in turn will turn me into a problogger, blogging for money

I'm not a problogger. I consider myself a "fun blogger." I earn quite an amount but still too low to be considered a pro.

I still don't know how to put a price tag to my blog. I asked people and friends to assess its value. It has about 320 posts in 2.5 years yet traffic has been hitting 800 unique visitors and 1500 pageloads lately and rising. There are also about 50 draft posts waiting to be posted at the right time, to coincide with the date of a historical event.

Tell me, if you were in my place what will you do?

What are the considerations on assessment of how much a blog is worth?
Google Pagerank? Site Statistics? Technorati and Alexa rankings?

How about copyright? To whom do the copyright of all pictures and write-ups belong?
AFAIK, copyright of photos belong to the photographer unless relinquished under a special agreement.

My domain is a premium one, something I didn't expect to be still available last january when I looked for one. Bought it for $10 but I know in the future, offers for it will come at a higher price.

How about the arrangements for me as content writer? It's not easy to maintain a travel blog, unlike others. I need to travel in order to post an entry. Can I haggle for freebies, flights and accommodations in order to write something about a place? That will counter my initial aim of unbiased reviews though. The compensation should exceed my current adsense and earnings from other ads as well as allow me to upgrade my camera and other equipment.

I'm a sentimental person. I started my blog as a repository of all my personal travels. I intend to pass on to my future children, and grandchildren...it's some sort of an online heirloom in the future.

Oh well...it's a problem some people would want to be in but not me.

How much is your blog worth?

Blogger and HaloScan

Maybe you've also noticed the stupid move by Google/Blogger to limit commenting on Blogger to people with Google/Blogger accounts leaving out other people using another blogging platform.

This is a screenshot of the new comment form field with only anonymous or nickname is left without a link back to the commenter.

What I did was to install HaloScan for commenting as well as not removing the comments field in my other blog so as not to remove old comments. I need the old comments (as well as it's good for the search engines). My main blog uses a modified classic template so I had to manually edit it plus insert a Google rant.

Let me know if you have other solutions for this stupidity.

Glorietta "Bombing": Citizen Journalism or Irresponsible Blogging?

Last October 19, 2007, I received a call around at 1:30pm asking me where I was and to confirm if there was indeed a bombing of Glorietta 2. At that moment, I noticed my officemates were trying to browse the already slow Inquirer.net website. I tried to browse Philstar.com but information presented was vague so I switched to Inquirer.net's express edition and the initial report was an LPG tank explosion.

Within minutes I received pictures of the "blast site" in my email showing gory pictures and lurid details even showing bloodied faces of victims killed that can be identified. Thought of posting the pictures but the better part of me told me to exercise restraint. I didn't blog about this "bombing" incident in the first place due to many reasons: I don't have a first hand account of the incident, I don't use pictures taken by other people unless I have explicit permission, and I don't want to generate blog traffic out of the incident. Besides, the excruciatingly slow investigation on the cause of the incident was still uncertain with the police flip-flopping on the initial results wether it was LPG, C4 explosive due to alleged presence of RDX, or other powerful bombs pointing an accusing finger at the Abu Sayyaf (The Abu Sayyaf the following day denied they have anything to do with the "bombing."), Jemaah Islamiyah and the Raja Solaiman Movement (RSM).

However, many blogs started to post stories and pictures of it declaring aloud the "terrorists" behind the dastardly act. Media sensationalism again went full blast. The firebrand senator Trillanes cried it was a conspiracy that the government planted the bomb (kind of a projection actually since the "good" senator was the one seen on national television planting bombs in Oakwood (now Ascott) during their mutiny; wonder why many "educated" Filipinos voted for him). Politicians offered rewards on information to help arrest perpetuators of the "crime." The United States, United Kingdom, and Canada issued travel advisories.

Now, as to why I wrote this post, I noticed bloggers will post many things at the fastest time possible-- even without verifying the facts. The news of the "bombing" reached international media attention thus scared away potential tourists that this country badly is in need of.

Recently, as confirmed by foreign investigators, the incident was the the result of an accident and not a bomb. The news, sadly, was not corrected by some bloggers who've already cashed in on the incident. Many people reading blogs may have taken note of the "terrorist bombing" angle but were not updated on the accident angle thereby making the belief that terrorism again struck this already terrified nation.

Add "Read More" Feature to Blogger (Expanding Posts)

Maybe you've noticed my Tutubi Patrol now has the new look and feel where I abbreviated the posts and added the "Read More" (actually a pagebreak) link to expand the posts on a separate page for Blogger/Blogspot blogs.

This expandable feature is what I root for in Blogger that Wordpress already have so I almost migrated this blog to Wordpress here but now I decided to continue using Blogger for some reason.

One of my Blogger friends, R.O. (actually we're friends way before this blog thing came aboout) asked me sometime ago how to do it but I didn't point him to the exact link nor did it myself. But since I'm now approaching the first anniversary of my blogs, I decided to give my Tutubi Patrol blog a facelift by making use of a new template and adding the "read more" to expand my posts thereby compressing the mainpage to save on bandwidth and agony for dial-up visitors.

Since my Tutubi Patrol site is still using the classic template, I only need to add a few lines of CSS code to my template as described in this article by Blogger and manually edit each post to insert the pagebreaks. Note I also enabled postpages for this feature to work.

If any of you need help in making a similar change to your blog, just drop a comment here and the tutubi will be seen hovering near you to help you out!

I will also make similar changes to this blog so stay tuned!
